Effiong went on to highlight the importance of readiness in all aspects of life before marriage.

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has reflected on the significant consequences of selecting a life partner, drawing from his experiences observing young marriages unravel in bitter and highly contentious divorces.

In a recent post, Effiong emphasized, “The most consequential decision in the life of a man is the choice of a spouse.”

He elaborated on the lessons learned from his work as a divorce attorney, saying, “Observing couples who have been married for less than two years engage in hostile and acrimonious proceedings for the dissolution of their marriages offers me the opportunity for deep introspection.

"It underscores how critical it is to make the right choice when selecting a partner for life.”

Effiong went on to highlight the importance of readiness in all aspects of life before marriage.

“When the heart, body, mind, soul, and spirit are prepared for the commitment of marriage, may we not make the wrong choice,” he added.

Concluding with a lighthearted caveat, he noted, “Caveat: there’s a chance that if you ask me a personal question based on the above, it is improbable that I’ll answer. Bye.”

His reflections serve as a reminder of the emotional, legal, and spiritual stakes involved in choosing a life partner, especially in an era where young marriages are increasingly vulnerable to conflict and early dissolution.
