The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, announced the decision in a statement on Monday, stating that the closure takes effect from midnight, February 23, 2026, and the market will reopen on Monday, March 2, 2026.

The Anambra State Government has directed the shutdown of the New Auto Spare Parts Association (NASPA) Market in Nkwo Nnewi over poor compliance with its order suspending the Monday sit-at-home in Anambra State.

The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, announced the decision in a statement on Monday, stating that the closure takes effect from midnight, February 23, 2026, and the market will reopen on Monday, March 2, 2026.

According to the statement, the action followed inadequate adherence to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s directive to end the Monday sit-at-home practice across the state.

The order to seal the market was conveyed on behalf of the governor by the Special Adviser on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, alongside the Special Adviser on Security, AVM Ben Chiobi (Rtd), and the Mayor of Nnewi, Hon. Echezona Anazodo.

The government advised traders and customers to stay away from the market during the closure period to avoid confrontation with law enforcement agencies. It warned that the market could face an extended shutdown if compliance remains unsatisfactory after reopening.

The statement added that normal activities have resumed across Anambra on Mondays following the governor’s directive issued in late January 2026.
