Nigerian businesswoman, Kris Asimoye has shared a personal reflection on why her husband, comedian Bovi Ugboma, advised her not to change her surname after they got married — a decision she says now makes perfect sense.

Kris, who shares three children with the entertainer, took to Instagram to open up about the conversation they had early in their marriage.

According to her, Bovi encouraged her to retain her maiden name, even though she did not fully grasp his reasoning at the time.

“When I got married, my husband encouraged me not to change my last name. At the time, I did not fully understand why,” she wrote.

Years later, however, the entrepreneur says the wisdom behind that advice has become clear. As she continues to grow and establish herself professionally, she has come to appreciate the value of building her identity and brand under her own name.

“Now, building Kris Asimoye as a brand, I understand completely,” she added.

Her post has since sparked conversations about identity, marriage, and personal branding, with many applauding the couple’s forward-thinking approach and mutual support for each other’s individual growth.
