He said outsiders cannot fully understand whatever arrangement they had regarding the sharing of proceeds from her songs.

Veteran Fuji singer Pasuma has reflected on the evolving music industry while sharing his views on the career of fellow artist Busola Oke.

Speaking during an interview with Face TV Africa, the Fuji star addressed the issues surrounding Busola and another artiste Bayowa, saying any disagreement between them is personal and known only to those involved.

He said outsiders cannot fully understand whatever arrangement they had regarding the sharing of proceeds from her songs.

Pasuma explained that the music business does not always move in a straight line.

According to him, a song may become popular, yet physical sales may not meet expectations.

In such cases, artistes often depend on live performances to earn income.

He added that revenue sharing in juju music differs from what applies in Fuji, as each genre has its own system.

Using Busola’s hit track Eleyele as an example, Pasuma said the period when that style of music dominated has passed because audience taste has changed over time.

He noted that trends move quickly and what worked years ago may not attract the same attention today.

The Fuji musician said surviving in the industry for many years is not easy.

In his view, artistes who started singing years ago and are still active today can only thank God for sustaining them. He said the music space has changed greatly compared to the past.

He said: “Whatever happened between Bayowa and Busola is between them and God. We don’t know their agreement on the sharing formula for her songs.

“There are times when a song will blow, but they will not sell the CDs as expected, so the singer will make his/her money from shows.

“The sharing formula for juju is different from that of Fuji. The time she sang Eleyele has passed because people have moved on from that kind of music.

“Anyone who was singing then and is still singing now is just by the grace of God.

“Things have changed. Busola is my personal person. We were both with Bayowa during that period. I felt so bad for her when I watched the video of her crying.”
