Obi formally picked up his card during the flag-off ceremony of the Anambra State ADC registration and mobilization exercise held on Saturday.
The event attracted party members and supporters from across the state.
Obi’s move comes amid earlier speculation about his possible return to the Labour Party.
It was earlier reported that the former Anambra State governor declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, stating that he would not be intimidated by the large number of governors currently in the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Obi said several attempts had been made to discourage him from the race but insisted that he would not be deterred.
