A football player is being made to serve an outrageous punishment just for wearing a particular kind of trousers.

Sosha Makani, a 29-year-old goalkeeper with Persepolis of Iran, has been punished by the Iranian Football Federation for crimes against fashion.

The Iranian Football Federation suspended the goalkeeper for six months just for wearing Nickelodeon character, SpongeBob SquarePants trousers.

In a photo posted to social media, Makani was seen in a colourful outfit, wearing yellow trousers with black dots, a blue t-shirt, black belt, and blue-patterned converse shoes.

'Among the matters reviewed was Sosha Makani's unconventional and inappropriate clothing,' ISNA news agency said. 'The ruling is not final and can be appealed,'

Iran's zero tolerance policy when it comes to dress, fashion and appearance in the country has hit the player hard as he wasn’t even at an official gala or anything that would directly implicate the Iran Football Federation.

He has been arrested before for mixing with a woman.

A morality committee source claimed that he didn’t show up when summoned for this trial. Makani was a member of the Iran squad that went to the 2014 World Cup.
