House Of Reps Amends Electoral Act, Prescribe Jail Term For Dual Party Membership

In the new provision, anyone found guilty of belonging to more than one political party at the same time will face a fine of N10 million.

The House of Representatives has amended the Electoral Act 2026 to make dual membership of political parties a criminal offence.

In the new provision, anyone found guilty of belonging to more than one political party at the same time will face a fine of N10 million.

The green chamber passed the amendment during Wednesday’s plenary.

The House also proscribed a maximum prison term of two years for offenders.
