The Benue State Police Command has stepped up security operations following a de@dly attack on farmers in Apa Local Government Area, where six bodies have so far been recovered.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the command said the attack occurred in the early hours of March 13, 2026, when suspected armed herders stormed cashew farms in Asaba, Ojantele, and Okpette communities while farmers were working on their plantations.
According to the police, a joint security response team made up of operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, military personnel, and local youths quickly moved into nearby forests to launch search and rescue operations aimed at locating victims and tracking the attackers.
