Zulum disclosed that security agencies had uncovered information suggesting that suspected suicide bombers may be planning to strike.

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has urged residents to stay alert during Eid prayers in Maiduguri after intelligence reports indicated a potential terrorist attack.

Zulum disclosed that security agencies had uncovered information suggesting that suspected suicide bombers may be planning to strike.

Speaking during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, the governor said: “We have intelligence that there are two suicide bombers lurking around to carry out attacks, and we are calling on all our people to remain vigilant.”

The alert comes days after coordinated explosions rocked Maiduguri, including areas around the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, a city roundabout, and the Post Office.

The attacks reportedly claimed over 23 lives and left more than 100 others injured.

Zulum noted that insurgents are currently under intense military pressure but may attempt fresh attacks as a diversion.

He, however, expressed confidence that such efforts would not succeed.

The governor, who recently returned from lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia, visited victims of the blasts and commended the Federal Government for its swift response.

He acknowledged the release of funds for clearance operations around the fringes of Lake Chad and the directive for Service Chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri.

Through his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, Zulum had earlier urged residents to exercise caution, especially in places of worship, during the Eid period.

He assured citizens that security agencies are fully mobilised to prevent further attacks.

The governor encouraged residents to remain calm but alert and to promptly report any suspicious movements to security agencies.

He reiterated that the government remains committed to supporting victims and restoring peace across Borno State and the North-East.
