Ahmed Ololade, the Nigerian singer, who is popularly known as Asake, has described 2020 as a challenging year that tested him and ultimately reshaped his path.

He recalled facing challenges that seemed like setbacks at the time, but later became the foundation for his breakthrough in music.

In an interview with Korty EO, the Sungba crooner said the period taught him humility and patience as he navigated the uncertainties of life.

During that year, Asake released the song that marked the start of his rise in the industry.

The success came after a period of struggle, showing how perseverance through difficult moments can lead to unexpected opportunities.

Asake also revealed his plans to expand his career beyond Nigeria.

He shared that he had long aimed to pursue opportunities in Los Angeles and was determined to explore the global music scene.

Once in California, he embraced the experience fully, focusing on his craft and aiming to turn his dreams into reality.

He said: “2020 was a serious year. Life humbled me so much. You know when God puts something sweet in your mouth and removes it? That was what happened in 2020.”

“At that time, I did not know that God was building me. I did not expect it. God then gave me ‘Me I no dey cap, me I no dey form,’ and then He did not give me again.

“Before I travelled, Los Angeles was a place I liked. Even when I was with my friends, I told them that I was going to leave this country and go to California. So, I did not overthink it.

"When I got to California, I was just like, bro, I will be here. Let me just live my dream, mehn.”
