Popular Nigerian singer Chike has opened up about the marital advice he received from his mother, revealing that she warned him not to marry someone who doesn’t add value to his life, regardless of love.

Speaking in a recent interview with Ada’s Room podcast, Chike disclosed that his mother advised him never to marry from a poor family or settle with an unemployed lady.

The 33-year-old explained that according to his mother, marrying from a poor family or marrying a lady whose family members are financially dependent on is a financial burden.

“I think everybody should look for a partner that has value.

"Personally, my mum advised me never to settle down with a woman who doesn’t have a source of livelihood regardless of love,” he said.

The singer added, “She also told me never to marry someone with the baggage of family responsibilities, especially a firstborn that is not productive.”

Chike said he often interrogates ladies to see if they are from comfortable families and are productive before proposing relationship.

He advised men to think beyond sex and consider other factors before entering into relationships, especially ones with marriage potentials.
