Veteran Nollywood actor Zack Orji has addressed rumors suggesting that his wife abandoned him in Abuja while he was seriously ill and receiving hospital treatment.
The actor said the reports circulating online were not true and only gained attention because many people are quick to believe and spread negative stories.
According to him, the situation was very different from what was being said, as his wife was informed immediately after his health condition became critical and she traveled to Abuja without wasting time.
In an interview with Kaa Truths, he explained that his wife stayed close to him throughout the difficult period, including the time he underwent two brain surgeries.
He made it known that she did not leave his side and was present in the hospital while he battled for his life.
During that period, Orji also received help from many people around him.
He said support came from friends, family members, and others who cared about him, which made it easier to handle the financial demands of his treatment.
With this help, he did not struggle to pay for medical care, and it also contributed to how quickly he was able to recover.
Looking back at the experience, the actor said he came to understand how lack of support can affect patients in hospitals, as some people do not survive because they do not get the help they need.
In his own case, he said assistance kept coming at the right time, even when his condition was very serious.
He said: “There was a lot of speculation that maybe I was no longer with my wife and that is why she was in Lagos while I was battling for my life in Abuja. People are very attracted to bad news in this country. Bad news sells like hot cake. But immediately it happened, my wife was summoned to Abuja.
“She flew immediately and stayed with me all through. I went through two brain surgeries. She was there the whole time in the hospital. I also realized that sometimes people pass away in hospitals simply because there’s no help. But here I was in such a critical condition and help kept coming.”
