Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency have rescued three nurses who were abducted by gunmen at a primary health centre in Akure.

The Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, who confirmed the development while speaking at the headquarters of the command, said the health workers were rescued at about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Similarly, Adeleye also confirmed the rescue of a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son who were abducted at Pelebe community along Oda Road, Akure.

He said, “The man and his son were kidnapped between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. yesterday (Friday). The victims were, however, rescued by our men at about 1:00 a.m. after a heavy confrontation with the kidnappers.

“The three health workers earlier abducted have also been rescued at about 4:30 a.m. and are currently receiving treatment at the Amotekun health facility.”

Some armed bandits reportedly stormed the primary health centre located in the Oke Ijebu area of Akure, abducting no fewer than three health workers on duty on Saturday morning.

It was gathered that the bandits struck at the government-owned facility at about 2 a.m. and whisked away the victims.

According to one of the patients at the centre, the attackers arrived in a bus, forcefully entered the facility and took away the victims, while other health workers on duty luckily escaped.

The bandits were also said to have packed all the victims into the bus before driving off to an unknown destination.

The Amotekun commander assured residents that the safety of lives and property remains a top priority for the state government. He also urged members of the public to continue to provide timely and adequate information to security agencies, stressing the need for collective efforts to enhance safety across the state.
