Father and son were rescued following a late-night operation along Oda Road in Akure South Local Government area.
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, has rescued Segun Makinde and his 15-year-old son from kidnappers.
Father and son were rescued following a late-night operation along Oda Road in Akure South Local Government area.
The Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye earlier confirmed the incident, stating that the victims were abducted at Pelebe, on the outskirts of Akure, between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on March 27, 2026.
He disclosed that operatives of the Amotekun Rapid Response Squad engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle around 1:00 a.m., forcing them to abandon the victims and flee.
Narrating his ordeal, Makinde said he was attacked shortly after arriving home in the evening.
According to him, armed men ambushed him at his residence, shot at his vehicle and forcibly dragged him into the bush after assaulting him with cutlasses.
Makinde said the kidnappers, numbering about five initially, later joined forces with additional armed men, as they moved deeper into the forest.
“They marched us through the bush for hours, beating me and threatening to kill us if we resisted,” he recounted.
He explained that while in captivity, he and his son seized an opportunity to escape when they heard voices nearby.
Unknown to them, Amotekun operatives had already positioned themselves in the area.
“As we ran, the kidnappers opened fire, but the Amotekun operatives responded immediately. There was an exchange of gunfire, and in confusion, we escaped further into the bush,” he said.
Makinde that after several minutes of hiding, the operatives eventually located and rescued them.
He added that the security personnel provided immediate medical attention upon their rescue and transported them to the Amotekun headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.
“They treated our injuries and ensured we were safe. I am grateful for their swift response,” he said.
