A man has stirred widespread reactions after sharing his experience working in Nigeria’s banking sector, especially in the role of a contract staff member.
According to him, the conditions can be extremely demanding, describing it as a system where workers are overworked and under-treated. He said despite being good at his job, he was neither promoted nor given the full benefits he was entitled to.
He revealed that although he was supposed to have one month leave, he struggled to even take two weeks at once.
Sharing a personal experience, he said he once fell seriously ill at work and had to go for treatment, only for his supervisor to question his absence the next day and ask him to return to work with his medication so he could manage it while working.
He added that the experience affected him deeply, as he carried that mindset even after relocating abroad.
According to him, while working in a bank overseas, his supervisor noticed he was unwell and questioned why he hadn’t spoken up, telling him he was entitled to take proper sick leave instead of hiding his condition.
