Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticized President Bola Tinubu for the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria, claiming that the government is unable to handle the situation.

In an interview with Channels Television's Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Okonkwo made the comments, citing recent killings in Plateau State and other regions of the nation as proof of what he saw as leadership failure.

He maintained that the federal government had not proven its ability to safeguard individuals and contended that levels of insecurity had risen to frightening proportions across the country.

Okonkwo said, “I don’t need to tell any Nigerian now that Nigeria is not working.”

He also referenced the President’s recent visit to Plateau State, faulting his handling of victims of the violence. “You can imagine a President who went to Plateau and said I’m going to condole with the victims. He stayed at the airport and told the victims to come and condole with him,” he said.

Recalling earlier pledges made by President Tinubu on the delivery of energy, Okonkwo continued to criticize the administration's management of the power sector.

He claimed, "This same president was the one who told Nigerians to vote him out if he did not provide electricity." He insisted that Nigeria's biggest problem is still insecurity, cautioning that if the problem is not fixed, other areas of governance will suffer as well.

According to him, violent attacks, including incidents involving military personnel in Borno State, reflect the depth of the crisis facing the country.

He said, “In Borno State, our armed forces are being killed and massacred. As I talk to you, insecurity is a daily occurrence.” Okonkwo also repeated remarks made by other opposition leaders, like as former interior minister Rauf Aregbesola, who recently called the ruling party's "Renewed Hope" plan a failure.

He continued, "To enable Nigeria to work toward security." You can't do anything without security."

He came to the conclusion that Nigeria's biggest problem is still insecurity, stressing that without safety, meaningful development cannot be achieved.
