Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo has called for an urgent stakeholder intervention on April 22, 2026, to prevent a total collapse of Nigeria’s airline industry.

In order to stop the projected airfare spike and airline shutdown in Nigeria due to a 300 percent increase in aviation fuel known as JetA1, the Nigerian government has called an emergency stakeholders meeting for April 22, 2026.

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, informed airline operators of this in a letter dated April 16, 2026.

Recall that when JetA1 prices increased from N900 to almost N3000 per liter, airline companies threatened to halt operations or drastically raise fares. In response to airline operators, Keyamo assured that the Nigerian government would intervene to avoid collapse of the sector.

“I wish to formally assure you that the concerns raised by your members have received the full attention of the federal government and we shall take immediate steps to address the issues.

Consequently, a high-level emergency stakeholders' meeting has been set for this Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026, in Abuja, bringing together all relevant stakeholders and regulatory authorities with a view to achieving a prompt, practical, and sustainable resolution. The venue and time will be communicated in due course.”
