Idi Barde Gubana, the deputy governor of Yobe State, has sponsored the marriages of ten female orphans he reared in the state's Fune Local Government Area and commissioned fifty mosques.
His project, the Gorbo Foundation, which supports and educates women, orphans, and other disadvantaged populations, was used to carry out the gesture.
During the launching of one of the mosques constructed at the Emir of Fune's palace, the deputy governor told reporters that the goal of the project was to draw people closer to God.
Gubana clarified that after raising and teaching the ten female orphans, he encouraged their marriages to the partners of their choice.
He explained that the gift was an expression of kindness and thankfulness to God for raising him from a lowly position to deputy governor. Over 1,400 orphans are currently under our care.
He said, From elementary school through secondary school, we train them, and some of them are currently enrolled in postsecondary schools. We supported their marriages because some of them had graduated and found partners"
He also urged wealthy people and politicians to build mosques, aid orphans, and fund programs that improve people's physical and spiritual well-being.
Professor Ibrahim Maqari, Chief Imam of the National Mosque in Abuja, praised the deputy governor for the action.
However, he urged him to provide the married orphans with additional initial funds so they could start small businesses in their married homes.
