Troops Raid Delta Community, Recover 4 AK-47 Rifles in Ogidigben Operation

A swift military response in Delta State has led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles and a cache of ammunition after reports of sporadic gunfire in Ogidigben community.

During an operation at Ogidigben Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, troops from the 63 Brigade/Sector 1, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation Delta Safe seized four AK-47 weapons from alleged criminals.

Two suspected criminals were also apprehended as a result of the operation.

A statement signed by Captain Iliyasu Bawa-Rijau, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Asaba, on Monday detailed the noteworthy operational achievements. Journalists in Warri were given copies on Tuesday.

"The operation was conducted following reports of sporadic shooting in the community," the statement reads.

"The troops moved quickly in response to credible intelligence, seizing four AK-47 rifles, six magazines, 106 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two knives, ten machetes, and four rain boots."

According to the Army spokesperson, the suspects are being held while an investigation is conducted.

Brigadier General Moronfolu Abdulmoshood Shonibare, the commander of 63 Brigade, commended the soldiers for their tenacity but gave them the task of maintaining the operating pace.

He gave assurances about the Brigade's steadfast dedication to preventing criminal elements from acting freely.

Additionally, he cautioned that efforts will be stepped up to find "any individuals or groups harboring arms or engaging in criminal activities should have a rethink."
