Police in Kano have arrested six suspects following a violent attack by alleged ‘Yan Daba thugs at the popular Farm Centre phone market.
Six individuals have been taken into custody by the Kano State Police Command in connection with Monday's attack on the well-known mobile phone market at Farm Centre in Kano.
Chief Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Haruna, the command's public relations officer, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Tuesday by state Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori.
A distress call was received on April 27, 2026, at approximately 1320 hours, stating that suspected "Yan Daba thugs had mobilized for a clash." Patrol teams were sent to the scene as soon as they received it.
Officers saw a violent altercation between alleged gangsters when they arrived. Attempts were made to attack other locations, and an ambulance was vandalized during the process, he claimed.
"The police quickly confronted the thugs," he continued. Still, theylater regrouped and attacked police officers with dangerous weapons and stones. The attack was professionally repelled by the operatives. The hoodlums then fled to Farm Centre Market, where they attempted to break into shops and loot property.”
According to the statement, reinforcement was swiftly mobilised to the scene where the thugs were further dispersed and six suspects arrested.
“Calm and normalcy have since been restored to the affected areas,” the statement said.
As a result, the commissioner asked parents and guardians to warn their children not to stir up disturbance in Kano since anyone caught doing so will be detained and prosecuted legally.
"The Command will not tolerate any kind of thuggery, 'Yan Daba activities, or disturbance of public peace in Kano State," police commissioner Ibrahim Bakori firmly cautions.
"Anyone found inciting trouble will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly, so parents and guardians are advised to caution their wards," the statement stated.
The statement said, "The CP commends the officers of Farm Centre Division and the reinforcement teams for their gallantry, restraint, and professionalism for their swift response that prevented further breakdown of law and order and loss of property."
He continued by saying that the incident is still being investigated in order to find sponsors of the altercation and capture other escaping culprits.
Recall that on Monday, a group of young people who were thought to be thugs attacked the well-known mobile phone market at Farm Center in Kano city, causing chaos among vendors and patrons.
According to reports, the thugs invaded the market in broad daylight, attacking individuals and intimidating victims with lethal weapons.
