The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has uncovered a network of caves and underground tunnels used for illegal drug activities in Kano State.

In the Rimin Kebe region of Kano State, a network of caverns and subterranean tunnels utilized for illegal drug activities has been discovered by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano Strategic Command.

Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the command's public relations officer, announced the discovery in a press release on May 6, 2026.

The statement claims that the operation, code-named "Operation Sharar Mafaka," was carried out on Monday, May 4, 2026, after extensive monitoring and intelligence gathering in the region.

According to reports, investigators discovered several caverns that suspected drug dealers had built and altered to act as residences and distribution hubs. Mats, pillows, food flasks, dishes, and silverware were among the home items found in some of the hideouts, suggesting extended occupancy and coordinated activities.

According to the statement, certain tunnels that might connect various underground hideouts looked to be under development.

Several of the caverns and tunnels have already been removed, according to Dahiru Yahaya Lawal, commander of the Kano Strategic Command, and plans are in place to destroy and protect the other structures.

"Wherever these dishonest elements hide, we will continue to pursue them," Lawal declared. "Our dedication is unshakeable. We are committed to eliminating this threat in Kano, therefore anybody engaged in the illegal drug trade should think about leaving right away.

He pointed out that the operation complies with orders from Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, to step up efforts against narcotics networks across the country.

The command emphasized that prompt information is still crucial in combating substance addiction throughout the state and urged citizens to assist continuing efforts by reporting suspicious activity to NDLEA offices.
