The African Democratic Congress has rescheduled its presidential primary election to May 23, as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

In preparation for one of the most anticipated opposition elections in 2027, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has moved its presidential primary to May 23.

With only 17 days remaining, focus is now turning to the candidates, delegates, and political strategies that will determine the party's course.

The ADC now has additional time to improve internal consultations, deepen consensus-building, and get ready for a transparent, competitive, and credible process thanks to the new date.

For many observers, the true question at hand is whether H.E. Rotimi Amaechi can pull off an unexpected victory and become the face of the national rescue effort of the ADC.

Amaechi has extensive expertise in government, a well-known national brand, and a track record of public service as a former Federal Republic minister and governor of Rivers State.

One thing is certain as the countdown gets underway: the ADC primaries won't be your typical party gathering. For Nigeria's opposition politics, it might prove to be a pivotal moment.

It is currently set for May 23. The race is underway. The whole country is observing.
