The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State has arrested 29 suspected drug traffickers and seized more than 10,000 kilograms of narcotic substances in a major anti-drug operation.
29 alleged traffickers carrying 10,359 kg of narcotic substances have been apprehended by agents of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency's (NDLEA) Edo State Command.
On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the agency's State Commander, revealed this when pulling out the agency's April scorecard.
According to Ofoyeju, the period's accomplishments were characterized by significant operational outcomes in the battle against substance misuse and drug trafficking.
According to him, there were 10 female suspects and 19 male suspects.
He continued by saying that both motorized patrols and targeted operations on different drug hotspots throughout the state resulted in the suspects' capture.
9,611.69 kg of cannabis, 748.02 kg of psychotropic substances, 444 kg of tramadol, 25.2 kg of rohypnol, 242.82 kg of diazepam injection, 36 kg of bromazepam, 0.00 kg of methamphetamine, and 20.2 liters of codeine syrup were listed by the head of the Edo State NDLEA.
Additionally, according to Ofoyeju, the agency located and demolished a 0.912574-hectare cannabis farm near Egbeta Forest Saboro Camp in Ovia North-East Local Government Area. The facility was projected to produce 2,281.435 kg of cannabis.
Within the month, he said, the command filed four fresh charges and obtained five convictions.
He added that the Federal High Court in Benin City had 89 cases pending at the moment, indicating the continuous legal struggle against drug-related offenses.
Ofoyeju gave assurances that the command is committed to combating drug demand and has given counseling services to 13 referred clients, releasing them to their families while 12 others continue their rehabilitation programs.
He also revealed that the agency ran seven sensitization campaigns to increase public knowledge of the risks associated with drug abuse.
According to Ofoyeju, the accomplishments demonstrated the NDLEA's dedication to eliminating drug trafficking organizations throughout Edo State and pledged to step up operations and community involvement.
