The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reopened nationwide voter registration ahead of the 2027 general elections, prompting calls from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West for young people in Ondo State to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The Independent National Electoral Commission has reopened the voter registration drive throughout Nigeria, and the All Progressives Congress in the South-West has urged young people in Ondo State to get their Permanent Voter Cards.

According to the ruling party, this was required so that young people could fulfill their civic duties in the upcoming general election.

In a statement released on Thursday, Daramola Adesuyi, the APC South-West Youth Leader, made this claim.

He claims that the PVC is still the most important document for any person who wants to take part in the nation's political process.

"Beyond simply being a voting card, the PVC serves as a powerful instrument of civic engagement and a valid means of identification," stated Adesuyi.

"The PVC's main goal is to give qualified citizens the ability to cast ballots in municipal and national elections. No matter their eligibility or political interest, a citizen cannot vote without a PVC.

"In order to ensure that the government accurately represents the will of the people, mass voter registration and participation are essential for a healthy democracy."

In order to encourage party members to take part in the third and last stage of the registration process, the zonal youth leader called on all APC youths and other South-West stakeholders.

He claims that the statement was released to formally inform all APC youths and other stakeholders of the start of the third and final phase of the Independent National Electoral Commission's Permanent Voter Card registration exercise after the second phase was successfully completed on April 17, 2026.

"All APC local government youth leaders, party leaders and important stakeholders, student leaders across various campuses, youth groups, and all aspirants at all levels are directed to mobilize members to fully participate in the exercise," he stated.

"To help new voters, particularly those who have just turned 18, register and receive PVCs, the INEC regularly holds Continuous Voter Registration exercises.

"If a citizen's card is lost or damaged, they can apply for a replacement or transfer their registration to a new location during this window."

As preparations for the 2027 general elections get closer, the PUNCH previously reported that INEC had declared that the third and last phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration would start on May 11, 2026.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the chairman of the commission's Information and Voter Education Committee, said that the exercise would continue until July 10, 2026, giving eligible Nigerians an additional opportunity to register.
