The Ogun State Police Command has foiled an attempted truck hijacking in Ogun State, recovering a stolen DAF truck loaded with motor spare parts and a locally made wooden rifle allegedly used by the suspects.

In Ijebu Imushin, in the state's Ijebu East local government area, the Ogun State Police Command stopped a truck hijacking attempt and recovered a stolen DAF truck and a wooden rifle that the accused were reportedly using.

According to the Command, a truck carrying motor spare parts was intercepted by suspected thugs in the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu North Local Government Area early on Wednesday morning.

DSP Oluseyi Babasẹyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, claims that after the attackers forcibly removed the truck from the driver, the driver sounded an alert.

According to Babaseyi, highway patrol officers and detectives from the Ijebu Imushin Division quickly responded to the distress call and increased pressure on the suspects, forcing them to abandon the truck and flee.

He stated, "Detectives and highway patrol officers quickly mobilized to the scene after receiving the report, forcing the suspects to abandon the truck and flee under pressure."

"The criminal operation was successfully stopped and property loss was avoided thanks to the police's timely intervention."

The motorist was treated straight away after suffering a slight injury to his right ankle during the collision, according to the police spokesperson.

He added that a wooden gun wrapped in black tape that was purportedly used by the suspects was found during a search of the seized truck.

"A wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape, used by the suspects in the operation, was found after a thorough search of the recovered truck," he stated.

The Command stated that attempts were underway to locate the escaping individuals in order to apprehend and prosecute them.

Bode Ojajuni, the state's commissioner of police, praised the agents for their prompt action and reiterated the command's dedication to safeguarding people and property throughout Ogun State.

Additionally, Ojajuni advised locals to maintain their vigilance and notify security authorities via the Command's emergency lines of any suspicious movements or action
