The Progressive Governors Forum has dismissed viral social media claims alleging that Hope Uzodinma was removed as chairman during a secret emergency meeting in Abuja. The forum clarified on May 7, 2026, that no such meeting ever took place and confirmed that Uzodinma remains in charge.

The false report surfaced shortly after Kashim Shettima reportedly submitted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 candidacy paperwork, fueling political tension and online partisan debates. No credible media organization verified the rumour, which also falsely claimed that non-APC governors attended the alleged meeting

Claims circulated on social media that Uzodinma was removed by around 20 governors during an emergency meeting in Abuja, shortly after Vice President Shettima turned in President Tinubu's 2027 candidacy paperwork.

On May 7, 2026, the Progressive Governors Forum, which is composed of Nigeria's 19 APC state governors, firmly denied the reports, stating that Uzodinma is still chairman and that no meeting had taken place.

Amidst the ongoing APC primaries, no major publications validated the fake claim that mentioned non-APC governors as attendance and sparked partisan reactions.
