The Presidency has explained why President Bola Tinubu has declined to reimburse the fuel subsidy.
In an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today, Daniel Bwala, the President's Special Advisor on Policy Communications, blamed the cause on gasoline business fraud.
He said that non-Nigerians were profiting from the subsidy system and that the business was full of dishonest people.
President Tinubu has declined to return the fuel subsidy because historically, Nigerians have not benefited from it. There are scammers in that sector.
This government is not opposed to the idea of subsidies per se. For this reason, you can see that we have a 50% dialysis subsidy. We have provided subsidies in areas related to agriculture, which have an impact on our citizens.
"Increased revenue has made all of Nigeria's governors delighted.
The leadership style of President Bola Tinubu is flexible. It's adaptable. Because of this, he said that borrowing is not leprosy. For the time being, President Tinubu will provide subsidies if they are requested, he declared.
