The Rivers State Government has defended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, insisting he remains focused on governance and infrastructure development despite renewed criticism from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara is still committed to infrastructure development and governance, according to the Rivers State government.

The reaction coincided with more criticism from Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, who charged that his replacement prioritized second-term politics over governance and the approval of the 2026 budget.

Recall that Wike accused the governor of breaking a deal he purportedly signed not to run for reelection after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the state's political turmoil during a media conference held at his Abuja home on Wednesday.

Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor of Rivers State's chief press secretary, rejected the accusations as untrue.

Nzeshi, who was observed by our correspondent on Friday during a new show on Nigeria Info, 92.3 FM, a well-known radio station in Port Harcourt, emphasized that the governor has persisted in carrying out and inspecting vital infrastructure projects around the state.

"It is incorrect to say that His Excellency, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been more focused on politics than governance," he declared.

"If someone says that, they are not on the ground. Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of His Excellency, has been touring the entire state.

Therefore, it would be incorrect for anyone to claim that the governor has been preoccupied with planning for 2027 rather than carrying out his duties.

Additionally, he refuted allegations that Governor Fubara has abandoned state projects, stating that all 12 key highways that the governor inherited from the previous government had already reached 90% completion.

He claims that the Port Harcourt Ring Road Project and the first phase of the Trans Kalaburi Road are also nearing completion.

Residents of the state were told by the CPS to ignore what he characterized as attempts to defame the governor.

Nine of the twelve significant road projects that he inherited from his predecessor are now more than 70% finished.

He has been carrying out the governance duties for which he was elected just last week at two project locations: the Commissioner Quarters and the Creek Road market.

"He has demonstrated dedication. In terms of pursuing the initiatives he encountered on the ground, he has demonstrated perseverance. He said, "He is not giving up on projects."
