Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has revealed that his own daughter encouraged him to align with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Kwankwaso made this known during a Monday interview on ARISE News, where he spoke about the shifting political attitudes among Nigeria's younger generation.
He observed that many young Nigerians are increasingly moving away from considerations of ethnicity and religion, choosing instead to prioritize quality leadership and good governance.
Recounting his daughter's position, he noted that even within his own household, the influence of this generational shift was evident, with his daughter pushing for a partnership with Peter Obi during the 2023 electoral season.
The former governor acknowledged that the political preferences of younger Nigerians often diverge significantly from those of older generations, and warned that many political leaders have yet to grasp the growing impact of youth and social media on the country's political landscape.
He pointed out that a number of these leaders have little to no meaningful engagement with young people.
Kwankwaso further noted that younger voters are increasingly looking beyond ethnic and religious affiliations, demanding instead credible and capable leadership that can tackle the nation's pressing challenges.
He expressed agreement with this outlook, stating that while some continue to emphasize religion or ethnicity in political discourse, the younger generation is focused on finding the right leadership for Nigeria a position he described as entirely correct.
