David Ibiyeomie, founder of Salvation Ministries, has warned his congregation against chewing gum, drinking water, and using phones during church services, describing all three as inappropriate and disrespectful conduct within the house of worship.

Speaking during a church service, the cleric stated that chewing gum in church is unhygienic and indecent, particularly when worshippers dispose of it carelessly by dropping it on the floor or sticking it on chairs and other surfaces.

He urged members to refrain from the habit entirely during services, suggesting that those who wish to chew gum do so at home or after leaving the church premises.

For those who argued that gum helps keep their breath fresh, Ibiyeomie recommended using mouthwash as a more appropriate alternative, insisting that gum is not the proper solution in a church setting.

The pastor also addressed the practice of drinking water during service, describing it as unsuitable within the church auditorium. He drew a comparison with Catholic practice, noting that Catholic priests do not drink water at the altar.

He further advised that members who feel the need to drink water should step outside the auditorium rather than doing so during the sermon.

Ibiyeomie concluded his remarks by urging worshippers to put away their phones during services, stressing that such distractions are unbecoming of respectful church conduct.
