A Chief Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand of 47 suspects arrested during a major security operation targeting criminal hideouts in Mubi and surrounding communities.

The Chief Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, has ordered the remand of all 47 suspects arrested during a raid on criminal hideouts in Mubi, a town in northern Adamawa State.

The suspects were sent to a correctional centre following their arraignment, after being apprehended during a joint security operation in Mubi and its surrounding areas, which resulted in the arrest of 73 suspects for various offences. Of those arrested, 47 are currently being prosecuted and were brought before the court in two separate batches.

In the first batch, a police prosecutor, Inspector Ahmed Abubakar, arraigned 23 defendants and alleged that they had criminally conspired, armed themselves with dangerous weapons, and engaged in violent activities.

The charges against them include criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, terrorism, theft, receiving stolen property, and malicious damage.

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendants distributed and consumed prohibited substances including tramadol, diazepam, and substances suspected to be cannabis, causing significant disturbances and instilling fear among residents of Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas.

Items recovered during the operation included army face caps, fake police identity cards, machetes, knives, daggers, and jackknives, among others.

Inspector Ahmed urged the court to deny the defendants bail, citing ongoing investigations and the need for legal advice from the state Ministry of Justice given the gravity of the offences.

A second batch of 24 defendants was subsequently arraigned before the court by ASP Ezra Bulus, and they were equally remanded in a correctional centre.
