The wife of Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, has celebrated nurses across Nigeria for their invaluable contributions to healthcare, describing them as compassionate professionals whose service goes far beyond medical treatment to encompass the offering of hope and comfort to patients.
Soludo, who founded the non-governmental organisation Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, made this known in a message issued on Tuesday to mark the 2026 International Nurses Day, observed globally on May 12. She described nurses as unsung heroes whose dedication and resilience continue to strengthen healthcare delivery and support families and communities across the country.
The Anambra First Lady acknowledged that behind every recovering patient is a nurse who sacrificed sleep, provided reassurance in moments of fear, and delivered care with patience, strength, and love. She emphasized that nurses bring not only medical expertise but also emotional support and humanity to the healthcare system.
Soludo specifically commended nurses in Anambra State and across Nigeria for their sacrifice and commitment to saving lives, noting that their efforts strengthen families and uphold the dignity of communities on a daily basis.
This year's International Nurses Day is being celebrated under the theme "Our Nurses, Our Future Empowered Nurses Save Lives." Soludo also used the occasion to encourage nurses to sustain their dedication to delivering quality healthcare.
International Nurses Day is observed annually to recognize the contributions of nurses to healthcare systems worldwide and to draw attention to the need for greater investment in the nursing workforce and healthcare infrastructure.
