A routine security sweep in Kano has exposed two unsettling incidents unfolding in parallel. In one, a young suspect was allegedly caught interfering with a major federal rail project, raising fresh concerns about sabotage along critical infrastructure routes.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has made a series of arrests involving suspected railway vandalism and impersonation of civil defence personnel.
In the first case, a 22-year-old man identified as Sani Ismail, originally from Kuya village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was apprehended in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State following intelligence-led operations.
According to a statement signed by the command's spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had removed eleven rail line clips from the standard gauge railway currently being constructed as part of the Federal Government's Kaduna-Kano railway project.
A hammer believed to have been used to pry off the clips was recovered from him at the time of his arrest.
In a separate but related development, the NSCDC also arrested two men Yusuf Usman and Muhd Auwal, both 22 years old and residents of Kawo Jirga in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State for allegedly impersonating civil defence volunteers.
The two were found operating from a premises displaying the NSCDC logo despite not appearing in the organization's official volunteer database.
They are accused of using their false identities to harass and mistreat a social media comedian.
The command confirmed that investigations into the impersonation case have been concluded and that appropriate legal action will be taken against all suspects involved in both incidents.
