Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, has revealed that his political relationship with actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliott nearly cost him his position at the presidency.
Gbajabiamila disclosed that during the controversy surrounding the attempted impeachment of former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, President Tinubu summoned him privately at his Abuja residence and questioned whether Desmond Elliott was his political associate.
When Gbajabiamila confirmed the connection, the President informed him that intelligence reports had linked Elliott to the group of lawmakers allegedly orchestrating the impeachment plot.
Despite initially defending Elliott and denying his involvement to the President, Gbajabiamila said he immediately reached out to Elliott and warned him to distance himself from the group if he was indeed part of it.
The situation escalated further when the Director-General of the Department of State Services contacted Gbajabiamila to inform him that his name was being dragged into the controversy, with allegations that he was the mastermind behind the impeachment move and was using Elliott as a proxy.
To protect himself, Gbajabiamila urged Elliott to come out publicly and clear his name by categorically denying any involvement. However, according to Gbajabiamila, Elliott has not made any such statement to this day.
As a result of this sequence of events, Gbajabiamila has officially withdrawn his support for Desmond Elliott, who is currently seeking a fourth consecutive term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
