Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has called on the authorities to empower Nigerians to defend themselves, as concerns over rising insecurity across the country continue to grow.

Kadiri made the statement through a post on her social media page on Tuesday, expressing frustration over the repeated attacks, killings and growing fear being experienced by citizens in various parts of Nigeria.

She stressed that many Nigerians feel helpless in the face of the worsening security situation and that safety should not be treated as a privilege but as a basic right that every citizen deserves.

Her comments quickly sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians sharing similar concerns and calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent action.

One user said Kadiri had simply voiced what millions of Nigerians were too afraid to say, while another urged the government to prioritise the protection of lives rather than leaving citizens in a position where they have to beg for their own safety.
