Political tension erupted in Oshodi/Isolo after a powerful upset changed the game ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Education Secretary Mayowa Alakija, widely known as "Bibire," has secured the APC ticket for the Oshodi/Isolo State Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections, beating out sitting lawmaker Stephen Ogundipe in the party's primary.
The results were tallied at the Oshodi Local Government Secretariat's Legislative Hall, with a large turnout of party members and stakeholders present. Alakija dominated across nearly all the wards.
He pulled ahead convincingly in Bolade D1 Ward with 3,121 votes to Ogundipe's 1,110, and recorded an even more lopsided result in Orile Oshodi D2 Ward, scoring 4,352 votes against just 12 for the incumbent.
He continued his strong showing in Mafoluku D3 Ward with 2,102 votes compared to Ogundipe's 166.
The gap narrowed somewhat in Shogunle E1 Ward, where Alakija won 484 to 371, and in Alasia Shogunle E2 Ward, where he secured 455 votes against Ogundipe's 78.
When all votes were counted, Alakija won by a wide margin, finishing with 12,251 votes to Ogundipe's 1,737.
A third aspirant, Abiodun Orija, had pulled out before voting began and threw his support behind Alakija.
APC Returning Officer Prince Adesanya Omoloja subsequently declared Alakija the official party candidate.
His victory set off celebrations among supporters, with many viewing the result as a testament to his strong grassroots presence.
Party leaders praised the orderly conduct of the exercise and called for unity going into the general election.
In his victory speech, Alakija thanked party leaders, delegates, women, youths, and supporters across the constituency.
He also acknowledged those who backed his rivals, saying their participation reflected healthy democratic values.
He called for unity and reconciliation now that the primary is concluded, emphasizing that the party's collective interest must come before personal ambition.
He commended Orija for stepping aside in the spirit of unity and acknowledged Ogundipe for running what he described as a mature and democratic contest.
Alakija pledged to lead inclusively and to serve the constituency with dedication, fairness, and humility if elected in the general election.
