The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it is investigating the circulation of fraudulent appointment letters in Bauchi State.

The Command's Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed in an official statement that a suspect identified as Saleem Alhassan, from the Zango area of Bauchi Local Government Area, has been handed over for a thorough investigation.

He was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department on May 18, 2026, by the Area Commander of Bauchi Metropolis for further processing.

This is not the first such case in the state. A similar incident was reported just two weeks earlier, following a complaint lodged by the Office of the Head of Service, which led to the arrest and prosecution of two suspects.

According to the statement, five forged temporary appointment letters were recovered from Alhassan.

Early investigations suggest that he allegedly fabricated and printed the fake letters, making them appear to have been officially issued by a government office in 2025.

He is accused of collecting between N500,000 and N750,000 from unsuspecting victims who believed he could secure government employment for them.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, used the opportunity to caution the public to be wary of individuals or groups that promise jobs in exchange for money, urging citizens to verify the authenticity of any employment-related communication through official channels.
