The three women whose bodies were retrieved from the sea near Brighton Beach have been identified as sisters, with their heartbroken father describing them as the "beautiful light" of the family.

Emergency services were alerted to the Madeira Drive area at around 5:45am on May 13 following concerns about someone's welfare.

The bodies of all three women were recovered from the water shortly afterwards.

Sussex Police identified the victims as Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, all of whom lived in the Uxbridge area of London.

In a touching tribute, their father Joseph said his daughters brought joy, love and comfort to everyone whose lives they touched.

He described them as more than just daughters, calling them his source of strength and happiness, and said that although their time on earth was brief, the memory of who they were would live on in the hearts of those who loved them.

Authorities have stated that there is currently no evidence of criminal activity or any indication that another individual was involved in the incident.

Nevertheless, specialist detectives are continuing their work to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths.

As part of the investigation, officers have reportedly gone through hundreds of hours of CCTV footage and conducted inquiries with local businesses and residents in the area to piece together the sisters' final movements.

The public is being urged to come forward with any information about the women's whereabouts along Madeira Drive between 10pm on May 12 and 5:30am on May 13.

Chief Superintendent Adam Hays assured the public that investigators would leave no stone unturned in their efforts to establish what happened, while also calling on people to be considerate of the family's need for privacy during this deeply painful time.
