Students at Ayetoro/Iloro High School in the rural community of Iloro-Ekiti were abruptly sent home on Thursday morning following unverified reports of bandits operating in the area, triggering panic among the students who fled the school in fear.

An eyewitness, Bowale Adepoju, recounted seeing visibly distressed teenagers scattering in different directions as he drove past the scene.

Security operatives later intervened, assisting some of the students into a vehicle to ensure they got to safety. Fortunately, no attack took place and all students were accounted for.

The incident has nonetheless reignited concerns about the state of security in Ekiti State, particularly around schools located in remote and vulnerable communities.

Residents and stakeholders have renewed calls for the establishment of security checkpoints and stronger protective measures around such schools, especially in light of recent threats in the area, including a reported attack on a church.
