Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has approved a ₦500 million youth empowerment programme aimed at tackling unemployment and boosting small business growth across the state.

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has approved the release of ₦500 million to fund a youth start-up support programme, as part of his administration's efforts to combat unemployment and stimulate economic growth in the state.
The governor made the announcement on Friday during a statewide broadcast from Jalingo marking his third year in office, revealing that the empowerment scheme is set to kick off in June 2026.
He described the initiative as part of a wider reform agenda centered on youth inclusion, infrastructure development, and economic expansion, stating that his administration firmly believes the future of Taraba State rests on the empowerment of its young people.
Kefas disclosed that biometric data-capturing facilities have been commissioned to build a dependable database that will guide youth development planning and future empowerment efforts.
He noted that 296 youths have already been registered under the programme ahead of the June launch.
On institutional development, the governor revealed that his administration established the Youth Development Agency and the Sports Commission as standalone bodies to ensure that youth and sports development receive dedicated and focused attention.
Turning to infrastructure, Kefas said the proposed Ibi Bridge over the River Benue is receiving attention at the federal level, while feasibility studies are underway for additional bridge projects along the Chinkai and Karim Lamido corridors.
He said these projects are expected to improve connectivity, boost trade, and drive economic activity across the state.
Several road construction and rehabilitation projects are also ongoing across Taraba, covering routes such as the Mararaba-Biassa Abong Road, Takum-Lissam Road, Wukari-Kente-Chinkai Road, and Jalingo/Wukari township roads.
On education, Kefas recalled that one of his administration's earliest actions upon taking office in 2023 was declaring a state of emergency in the sector.
He said deliberate steps have since been taken to expand access to free and compulsory basic education, improve learning conditions, and restore public confidence in the educational system.
In the health sector, the governor said his administration has upgraded hospital facilities and broadened access to healthcare services across the state through targeted infrastructure and equipment investments.
