Members of the National Union of Teachers in Oyo State have staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan, demanding urgent government intervention following the kidnapping of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

Teachers under the National Union of Teachers (NUT) in Oyo State took to the streets of Ibadan on Thursday in a peaceful demonstration, demanding urgent action over the abduction of students and teachers from schools in the Oriire area of the state.
The crisis began on May 15 when armed kidnappers stormed Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area, abducting more than 40 students and teachers in a brazen attack.
The captors have since compounded the anguish of families and colleagues by releasing disturbing videos showing how the victims are being treated in the forest where they are being held.
With nearly three weeks passing since the abduction with no resolution in sight, primary and secondary school teachers across the state could no longer remain silent.
The protesters gathered at Iwo Road in Ibadan, filling the air with solidarity songs and passionate chants calling for the safe return of their colleagues and the schoolchildren.
Among the slogans heard were "bring back our children" and "no more bandits," as the educators made clear their frustration and demanded that relevant authorities take immediate and decisive action to secure the release of all those still in captivity.
