An Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of Ayodele Babatola, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ado Constituency 1 in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, following allegations of r@pe.

Babatola was arrested by police operatives in Ekiti State after a 30-year-old woman, identified as Bukola Oluwaseun, accused him of f@rcefully having s£xual int£rcourse with her at KIIBAT Hotel in the Adebayo area of Ado Ekiti on May 24, 2026.

Ekiti Police spokesperson Sunday Abutu confirmed the arrest, stating that the victim alleged the suspect f@rcefully had c@rnal knowledge of her at the hotel.

He added that the complainant reportedly sustained inj£ries during the incident, which officers observed when the case was reported.

The matter was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

In his defence, Babatola claimed he became angry after the woman allegedly requested payment before any int£rcourse took place, and insisted he did not actually p£netrate her before the situation escalated.

However, police stated that a medical examination allegedly confirmed p£netration had occurred. He was thereafter charged to court and remanded at the correctional facility in Ado Ekiti pending further legal proceedings.

In a separate development, some ADC members staged a protest over Babatola's arrest, describing it as politically motivated.

Speaking at a press conference, ADC chieftain Gboyega Aribisogan alleged that Babatola was being targeted because of his vocal criticism of the Ekiti State Government, describing him as a social activist who had repeatedly faced harassment from the police over his opposition stance.
