The Lagos State Government has pulled down 17 illegally erected structures and placed seals on 52 others across various parts of the state, as part of its continued drive to enforce physical planning regulations and bring order to the built environment.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Abiodun Oluyinka Olumide, revealed this on Friday at the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja, where he presented the ministry's performance report covering the third year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's second term.
Olumide explained that the enforcement actions followed investigations into numerous public complaints and property-related disputes across the state.
He noted that the ministry's Technical Services Department received 987 petitions during the review period, out of which 399 were resolved through mediation and compliance measures, while 519 remain under active investigation.
The commissioner highlighted several other achievements recorded during the period, including the completion of three significant urban planning documents the Lagos Island Model City Plan, the Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan, and the Revised Badagry Master Plan.
These frameworks are expected to guide infrastructure development, land-use administration, and sustainable urban growth across the state.
On housing estate oversight, Olumide disclosed that 205 estates were inspected during the review period to ensure compliance with approved layout plans and development standards.
To shield residents from fraudulent real estate dealings, the ministry also published details of 176 illegal estates operating without approved layout plans, urging prospective buyers to verify approvals before making any financial commitments.
In terms of permit processing, the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority handled 21,603 planning permit applications between June 2025 and March 2026, approving 17,279 of them.
A 60-day amnesty programme introduced between October and December 2025 further boosted compliance, drawing in 7,198 permit applications and resulting in 4,113 approvals.
The commissioner also highlighted the launch of the Electronic Physical Planning Permit Processing System (e-PPPS) as a major milestone, describing the digital platform as a significant step toward improving transparency and efficiency by allowing applicants to process planning permits online from anywhere in the world.
