Political commentator Imran Wakili has held former Vice President Atiku Abubakar responsible for the deepening crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pointing out that virtually all the prominent political figures who helped form the party's coalition structure in Adamawa State have since departed.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Wakili observed that none of the heavyweights who were part of the original coalition in Adamawa remain aligned with Atiku in the ADC.
He noted that former governorship candidate Aishatu Binani had defected to the NDC, former Governor Jibrilla Bindow is reportedly weighing his next political move, former Senator Ishaku Abbo has joined the Labour Party, and Abdulaziz Nyako has moved to the APC.
According to Wakili, Atiku is now left with only a handful of close loyalists, including his son Adamu.
"No matter how you look at it, you can't excuse Atiku from this mess," Wakili wrote, adding that he was not driven by personal animosity toward the former presidential candidate but by a realistic assessment of the situation.
The remarks come a day after former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, announced his resignation from the ADC, alleging that the party's recently concluded primaries were manipulated in Atiku's favour a development that has further fuelled concerns about the state of the party's internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
