Six members of the House of Representatives from Oyo State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The lawmakers Anthony Adebayo, Adedeji Olajide, Sunday Makanjuola, Oyedeji Oyeshina, Fola Oyekunle, and Adigun Adekunle are believed to be loyalists of Governor Seyi Makinde, who has himself defected to the APM and emerged as the party's presidential candidate.

The defections were announced during Tuesday's plenary session, which resumed after the Sallah break. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read out 13 letters in total announcing party changes by various lawmakers.

In their letters, the six Oyo lawmakers cited the prolonged internal crisis and leadership tussle within the PDP as their reason for seeking a political alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With this development, Governor Makinde has successfully taken six of the 14 members of the Oyo State caucus in the House of Representatives along with him to the APM.
