Recent intelligence reports have confirmed that Nigerian military forces, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, killed several senior terrorist leaders and dozens of fighters in airstrikes carried out in the Lake Chad region.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared this information on his official social media page (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, citing military sources.
According to him, the strikes took place on May 31 in the Kirta and Arina Ciki areas, and were launched after credible intelligence revealed insurgent activity in known terrorist strongholds and supply zones.
Post-strike assessments reportedly confirmed the deaths of Khalifa Umar, a notable figure on the terrorists' Shura Council from Sigir, along with two field commanders named Abdallah and Abduljalil.
In total, the operation is said to have resulted in the deaths of over 50 insurgents.
Beyond the human losses, the strikes also destroyed several of the group's logistical and support infrastructure, including supply depots and facilities used to sustain their operations.
This is expected to significantly weaken the terrorists' capacity to continue coordinated activities across the broader Lake Chad Basin.
