Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has publicly apologised to Nigerians who took offence at her recent comments regarding the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.

In a video shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, Alaseyori expressed remorse over the backlash that followed her earlier remarks, emphasising that she never intended to make anyone feel dismissed or unheard.

She explained that upon waking up the day after her initial video, she discovered that many Nigerians were displeased with what she had said, feeling that her comments had trivialised or overlooked the gravity of the situation and the anguish of those affected.

The singer directed a heartfelt apology particularly at mothers and families of the abducted victims, assuring them that she would never intentionally disregard their suffering.

She appealed for forgiveness and urged those who felt hurt by her words not to hold it against her, insisting that her remarks had been misunderstood.

Alaseyori had previously encouraged Nigerians to continue praying over the country's worsening insecurity situation, while also suggesting that the government was making efforts to restore peace comments that drew criticism from many who felt the response was inadequate given the severity of the crisis.

The kidnapping of pupils and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State continues to generate widespread concern, with many Nigerians calling on the authorities to intensify efforts to secure the safe return of the victims.
