A fresh political controversy has emerged after an aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar accused the ruling party of misplaced priorities, suggesting that state security resources are being directed toward political optics instead of public safety.

Demola Olarewaju, an aide to Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for 2027, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would rather deploy police officers to guard President Bola Tinubu's campaign billboards than use those same resources to protect ordinary Nigerians.

Olarewaju made the allegation while reacting to a social media post claiming that the Edo State Government had deployed police officers to stand guard over Tinubu's campaign billboards around Ring Road, with locals allegedly reporting that the officers take turns in shifts to protect the billboards from vandals.

In his own post on social media, the presidential aide described the alleged deployment as a reflection of the APC's priorities, accusing the ruling party of being more focused on entrenching political power than on addressing the security concerns of everyday Nigerians.

He argued that Tinubu's brand of politics which he characterised as being driven purely by the pursuit of power rather than sound policy is a pattern that Nigerians must collectively reject ahead of the 2027 general elections.
