Rivers United Team Bus Crashes En Route to Federation Cup, Players Escape Major Injuries

Chaos on the road nearly turned tragic for Rivers United as their team bus met with an accident on the way to Awka for a crucial Federation Cup clash.

Players and officials of Rivers United had a narrow escape on Thursday after the club's team bus was involved in a road accident while en route to Anambra State for a President Federation Cup fixture.

The Nigeria Premier Football League side was travelling to Awka for a Round of 16 clash against Nasarawa United when the incident occurred along the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt, shortly after the team had departed from its camp.

In a statement, Rivers United confirmed that while some players and officials sustained minor injuries, there were no fatalities or life-threatening cases among those on board.

All affected individuals were said to be receiving medical attention and remained in stable condition.

The club's management moved to reassure supporters that the welfare and safety of its players and officials remain the highest priority, adding that the situation was still being assessed.

Regarding the impact on the scheduled fixture, the club indicated that further updates on travel arrangements and the status of the match would be communicated in due course.

Rivers United also took the opportunity to express gratitude to fans, partners, and well-wishers for the outpouring of support and prayers received following news of the accident.
