Plans are now in motion for the final farewell of a respected retired police officer whose passing has drawn quiet reflection within his family circle

Davido’s logistics manager, Israel Afeara, popularly called Israel DMW, has released the burial arrangements for his deceased father, Afeare Eric.
After a brief illness, Mr. Afeare, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, passed away on March 2 at the age of 71. According to reports, he died in a hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The majority of the rites will be performed at Oguedo Quarters, Ivbiu-Ake, in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, while the reception will be hosted in Benin City, according to the family's funeral schedule.
On Thursday, July 9, 2026, the deceased's remains would be transported from Igue Mortuary to his home for an overnight social wake, marking the start of the funeral activities.
The late Afeare Eric will be buried at his compound in Oguedo Quarters, Ivbiu-Ake, Owan East Local Government Area, following a burial service on Friday, July 10. Ten in the morning is the scheduled time for the burial.
The program will resume on Saturday, July 11, starting at 2:00 p.m. with an afternoon wake at the family home.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ake will host a Thanksgiving service on Sunday, July 12, beginning at 10 a.m.
The funeral program's last event will be a reception on July 19 starting at noon at Crown Heart Pavilion on Country Road in Benin City.
Israel DMW described his father as a unifying factor in the family and a source of strength after the loss.
"It is sad losing my father at this time," he remarked. God knows better, but we still need him.
"He was my rock, and he played a key role in uniting the family."
Eight children and two wives survive the late retired police officer.
